Reimbursement

How do I get the Educational Supplement Reimbursement for the History Moms Program?

The cost of the tuition is reimbursable as long as you meet the following criteria:

  • At least one parent is employed as part of the foreign service
  • You currently live overseas
  • Your child is an elementary school student
  • An American history class is not taught at your child’s school

We recommend checking in with your FMO (Financial Management Officer) before purchasing the program just to make sure there are no issues.

SF-1190 Form

You will be required to purchase the class on your own. Once the transaction has been made you can request reimbursement by filling out Form SF-1190. You need to submit the form and your sales receipt.

Allowance Received

In section 16 of the Allowance Received section you will need to write “Supplementary Instruction Allowance.”

Remarks

In section 18. Remarks: you will need to describe the program.

I have enrolled my child(ren) in a supplemental American history course and would like to be reimbursed, per the DSSR 264.12a ($4,100) in addition to the school at post education allowance for the following reason:

The child’s school at post does not provide instruction in academic subjects generally offered by public schools in the United States, such as US History.

Payments

In section 21a. Payments: You will need to check the box marked Education Allowance DSSR 270.

Attach Form SF-1190 and the History Moms receipt to the email and send it to the FMO.

Then all you have to do is wait for the reimbursement to be processed.

Generally it takes around 3 weeks to receive reimbursement.
